That means an older home, a redeveloped block and a newer estate can all have different connection types, so your neighbour’s service isn’t always a reliable guide to what’s available at your address.

Do I need a new modem for nbn® at my Geelong home?

Yes, you’ll need a Wi-Fi router to connect your devices to your Skymesh service. The nbn® connection box, also called the Network Termination Device (NTD), is provided by nbn®. 

If you already have a router, you may be able to keep using it. Whether you need a new one generally depends on its age and capability, as well as the speed of the plan you choose, rather than the nbn® technology type at your address. 

As a general guide, routers more than five years old may use older Wi-Fi standards and may not support the speed, security or performance of newer plans.
