What internet plans can you get in Newcastle?

The internet plans available at your Newcastle address depend largely on the nbn® connection type available at your property. nbn® determines the technology serving each premises, which can affect the plans and speeds you may be able to order.

Because nbn® connection types can vary from one property to the next, even two homes a short distance apart may have different technologies. Start with an address check to see the Skymesh connection types and plans available at your property.

What nbn® connection types can you get in Newcastle?

An address check is the best place to start.

Does the fixed network reach you? If it does, you’re on Fixed Line. The technology type tells you where the fibre stops before existing wiring takes over.

      ●        FTTP (fibre to the premises): fibre runs into the building itself.

      ●        FTTB (fibre to the building): fibre reaches a block’s communications room, then the building’s own wiring carries it to each unit.

      ●        FTTC (fibre to the curb): fibre reaches a pit near the boundary.

      ●        FTTN (fibre to the node): fibre reaches a street cabinet.

      ●        HFC (hybrid fibre coaxial): existing cable already running to the property carries the last stretch.

If not, does a tower reach you? Fixed Wireless connects through a local nbn® tower. It’s more common on the rural edges of the Hunter than in the built-up suburbs, and the address check confirms it.

If Fixed Line and Fixed Wireless aren’t available, Sky Muster® Plus may be another option.

On FTTC and FTTN the fibre stops short of the building, and existing wiring at the premises carries the final link. Speeds on those two technology types are covered on the FTTC speeds and FTTN speeds pages.

nbn® upgrades parts of its network over time, so a Newcastle address checked a few years ago may now have access to a different technology type following those upgrades. Our pages on upgrading to fibre and the nbn® fibre upgrade process explain eligibility and what to expect.

The plan you choose and the technology available at your address are related, but they’re not the same thing. Our nbn® services page explains the options available across different technology types.

How to check what’s available at your Newcastle address

Use the Skymesh address checker to see what’s available at your property. Enter your street address to view the connection type and plans available for that location, including whether a technology upgrade may be available.

Having trouble finding your address? Call Skymesh on 1300 759 637. You can also fill in the form on our website and we’ll raise an address query with nbn®. Sometimes nbn® has an address listed under a different name or may not have a record of it yet. We can help get the property added so you can order an nbn® service. This support is at no cost to you.

What does an nbn® installation involve in Newcastle?

What the installation involves depends on the nbn® connection type available at your address.

      • Free standard installations.* Eligible customers may receive free standard installation*. This covers the standard setup required to connect an eligible property to the nbn® network.
      • Non-standard installations. In some cases, a standard installation might not be possible due to line of sight issues, your proximity to infrastructure, and your location. Non-standard installations may require additional work to ensure a quality connection. Additional charges may apply.

Skymesh does not carry out nbn® installation work directly. Where an installation is required, it is completed by an nbn®-accredited installer.

Check your address first to see what connection type is available, then ask our team what the installation may involve for your property.

      Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What internet plans are available in Newcastle?

Skymesh offers a range of nbn® plans in Newcastle. Which of them you can get depends on the nbn® technology at your address. Enter your address to see your options and current pricing.

Can I get fibre optic internet in Newcastle?

At some addresses, yes. Fibre reaches the building itself on FTTP, and other technology types bring it partway before existing wiring takes over. Because nbn® determines and allocates the connection type available at each address, an address check will confirm what your property can get.

Are there any data caps on internet services in Newcastle?

Skymesh plans are unlimited, subject to the fair use policy set by nbn®. Each plan page outlines the terms that apply to the service. Satellite plans are structured differently from Fixed Line plans, so check the plans available for the connection type at your address.

How do I check which internet providers are available at my address?

Enter your exact street address in the Skymesh address checker to see the connection types and plans available at your property. Because nbn® determines the technology available at each premises, availability can vary even between nearby addresses.

If you can’t find your address, our team can also raise an address query with nbn® and help resolve properties that are listed differently or aren’t yet in their records.

What if my Newcastle address comes back as Fixed Wireless?

In many cases, it means your property is outside the Fixed Line footprint and connects through a nearby nbn® tower instead.

Fixed Wireless options are available on our nbn® services page, and our guide to the Fixed Wireless installation process explains what installation may involve.

If Fixed Wireless isn’t available at your property, Sky Muster® Plus may be another option.

Who is the best internet provider in Newcastle?

There isn’t one internet provider that will suit every Newcastle address or household.

Start by checking what’s available at your address, then consider the plan terms, setup costs, equipment and level of support that matter to you.

At Skymesh, plans offer no lock-in contract, a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and no demand surcharges, with support available 7 days a week, including public holidays. Terms, conditions, and eligibility apply.

Do I need a new router for nbn® at my Newcastle home?

You’ll need a Wi-Fi router to connect your devices to your Skymesh service. The nbn® connection box, or NTD (Network Termination Device), is supplied by nbn®.

If you already have a router, you may be able to keep using it. Whether you need a new one generally depends on its age and capability, as well as the speed of the plan you choose, rather than the nbn® technology type at your Newcastle address.

As a general guide, routers more than five years old may use older Wi-Fi standards and may not support the speed, security or performance of newer plans.

If you’re unsure whether your current equipment is suitable, check with Skymesh support before signing up. Skymesh can also supply a compatible Wi-Fi router for an additional cost.

What happens to my Newcastle service if I move within the Hunter?

Check your new address first, as the nbn® connection type may be different and could require a different installation. If Skymesh is available at your new address, our team can help with the move and explain what’s involved.
