Sky Muster™ Plus was revealed by nbn co last year and we are now happy to announce that nbn co expects the new service will be generally available in July 2019. This is great news as there will soon be two nbn™ satellite services to choose from: Sky Muster™ or the new Sky Muster™ Plus service.
While existing Sky Muster™ services and plans will still remain available to new and existing customers, Sky Muster™ Plus will offer some exciting new features that may suit your needs better.
The biggest and most exciting difference is unmetered content.
Sky Muster™ Plus services will be unmetered for certain traffic categories such as email, basic web browsing and some operating system updates. All other types of traffic such as video, file sharing, voice calls and VPN traffic will still be metered by nbn co and shaped if you exceed your allowance. Please note that, even if you exceed your allowance of metered traffic, email and basic web browsing will remain unshaped!
When possible, Sky Muster™ Plus services can also burst above the speed limits that apply to even the fastest Sky Muster™ services.
Plans will have peak and off-peak data allowances and the shaped speed limit will differ between peak and off-peak periods. A different Fair Use Policy developed by nbn co will also apply to the new service. This is in contrast to the old one that will continue to apply to existing Sky Muster™ services.
nbn co expects to release three standard plans with differing data allowances. Other plan features, such as speed tier, speed limiting and off-peak hours are expected to be the same for all plans. Our pricing will be published before nbn co makes Sky Muster™ Plus generally available in July 2019.
A few lucky customers will shortly have the opportunity to test the upcoming service before its general release. We are currently contacting customers who previously expressed an interest to ask if they would like participate. We received a high volume of interest but, unfortunately, there’s a limited number of test services available. These services will be provided on a first-in-first-served basis.
If you previously expressed an interest and would like to participate, please check your mailbox for a new email called “Help test the new Sky Muster Plus service for one month”. If you agree with the email, click on the “Yes, I’d like to help test the new service” near the bottom of the email. Successful test applicants will be contacted prior to 7 June 2019 with further instructions.
