Mission Statement

Our aim is to promote knowledge and understanding of the history of Rylstone and adjoining districts.

We are interested particularly in deepening our understanding of the challenges facing the first settlers; how they met them and developed a prosperous shire; how their descendants and newcomers in the 19th and 20th centuries built on this basis both as individuals and as a community; what tests they faced in terms of weathering fire, flood, drought, world wars, and economic depression; changes in the nature of local industries and land use; and societal change.

In view of the wealth of historic buildings in the Rylstone District, the Society also has an interest in promoting the care, conservation and good management of local heritage buildings and sites.

The Society's premises include the Cottage Museum, the Slab Shed and Community Garden, and the Bridge View Inn.
